UEA Representative Assembly Highlights

January 23, 2012

Sick Days

The balance of sick days was given on Jan. 23. We have 3 different groups with 3 different total of days. Teachers with 1 – 4 years will get 7 days. Teachers with 5 – 8 years will get 4 days. All teachers with 9 or more years will get 5 days. These balances will be on the January 31 pay stub. The balance for the sick bank end of the day on January 20, is 3258.50, per contract it has to go below 3200, so no sick bank day was deducted on January 23.

MESSA

Every building rep will be receiving three informational sheets for all members within the week. There is a sheet for our health care plan, dental plan and Saver Rx prescription plan. MESSA Rep, Fred Baker, will be at our February meeting. Please send questions with your building rep.

RTTT

Your RTTT Teacher Evaluation Negotiations Team is still hard at work trying to arrive at a settlement with administration. At the beginning of February, your Team will begin soliciting input regarding appropriate and meaningful indicators of student growth for every member. We will compile this information and present it as a proposal to administration. You will receive additional information after our January 31 meeting.

Negotiations

The UEA RA approved the appointment of 2012 Negotiations Teams. Your UEA Negotiating Team is: Kristi Barel, Brian Cecil, Eric Kehres, Curt Lange, Dale Ott, Liza Parkinson and Amy Rea. A big thank you goes out to Steve Domke for his service as a negotiator last year. Your Team will be meeting for the first time this Thursday, January 26.

UEA Elections

Nominations for UEA offices will open on February 13 and close on March 12. All members should have received a blue sheet with all the positions to be elected.

Charity Events

Our December Canless Food Drive was very successful and generated good press. In January, members at Utica HS, Graebner, Harvey, and Browning made generous donations of soap, shampoo, etc. to families in Macomb as part of the We Are the People “Fill the Bus” drive held at the Macomb MLK Dinner. On February, 29, Liza Parkinson will be “arrested” to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Information will be sent to your home email address.
